Every person in this dunya is searching for a good life. It’s something we all long for, ease, happiness, success, a sense of fulfilment. But how often do we stop and ask ourselves: where does that life truly come from?
So easily, our gaze drifts toward those who seem to “have it all.” We see wealth, success, beautiful lifestyles, and we begin to believe that this is what a good life looks like. Without even realising it, our focus shifts from gratitude to comparison, from contentment to chasing.
And in that chase, something subtle happens. Our connection with our deen begins to weaken.
We forget that a good life is not measured by how much we own, but by how content we feel with what Allah has already given us.
Contentment is a quiet kind of richness. It doesn’t always show on the outside, but it settles deeply within the heart. When a person is pleased with what Allah has decreed for them, they begin to experience a peace that no amount of wealth can purchase.
Allah has already blessed us with so much, yet we often overlook it. Our eyes, which can witness the beauty and greatness of His creation. Our ears, which can hear the greatness of Allah. Our tongues, capable of making dhikr and speaking of the greatness of Allah. Our minds, able to reflect, to ponder, on the greatness of Allah.
When we begin to use these gifts with awareness, something changes within us. We start to see that we are not lacking, we are surrounded by ni’mats (blessings).
And with that realisation comes a deeper understanding: that even delays, even hardships, carry wisdom. Not everything we experience will make sense in the moment, but everything has a wisom. Every condition we find ourselves in is an opportunity, to develop sabr, to grow stronger, to become better versions of ourselves, to return to Allah with sincerity.
If you do not have the life of someone wealthy, do not let your heart feel heavy. If your basic needs are met, you already possess a form of richness that many in the world are still striving for.
There are people who have far less, yet their hearts are content. They work tirelessly for small earnings, yet they turn to Allah with love, humility, and gratitude. Their lives may seem simple, but their connection with their Creator gives them a depth of peace that many others are searching for.
Let those people inspire you.
Do not let your eyes be fixed on the glitter of this dunya in a way that makes you ungrateful. This world can be deceiving, it beautifies what is temporary and distracts us from what is eternal.
The more you incline yourself towards Allah, the more you will feel a sense of richness within your own life. A contentment that silence the noise of comparison. A peace that grounds you, even when life feels uncertain.
And perhaps that is the good life we have been searching for all along, not a life of having more, but a life of needing less, because the heart has found its place with Allah.
