The Madlanga Commission has heard how attempted murder accused, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala, told Sergeant Fannie Nkosi to inform suspended deputy police commissioner Shadrack Sibiya that police were raiding his house.
In the text message, Matlala tells Nkosi to inform “our main guy” that the police are raiding his house.
When probed about why Sibiya is referred to as “our main guy”, Nkosi told the commission that he didn’t know.
However, Commissioner Sandile Khumalo put it to Sergeant Nkosi that he knew what Matlala meant.
“You don’t know now, sitting here, but at the time, you knew exactly what he meant when he said tell our main guy that the police are at my house and they are beating my wife and kids. But obviously, he was referring to General Sibiya Commissioner. But why are you avoiding the issue? Why does he refer to General Sibiya as the main guy? Maybe the word our it sounds a bit. No, forget about us, I’m saying main guy, the main guy.”

Evidence leaders at the Madlanga Commission have poked holes in Sergeant Fannie Nkosi’s explanation of why police found R385,000 in cash at his home.
On 8 October last year, police raided Nkosi’s home and found the cash in his safe.
Nkosi has told the commission he was keeping the money safe for his brother, who had just sold a truck.
The sale agreement between Nkosi’s brother was signed on 7 October, a day before the raid at his home.
At the same time, the seller only signed the agreement on 19 December, which was three days after Nkosi submitted his statement to the Madlanga Commission on the matter.
There are also discrepancies in the purchase price, as the agreement lists R400,000 while the affidavit provided by Nkosi’s brother says the truck was sold for R380,000.
It’s also emerged that the truck in question was bought by Hartley Ngoato who is Nkosi’s legal representative at the commission.
