Wire Service Reuters reports that South Africa’s ambassador to France, Nathi Mthethwa, who was found dead at the foot of the Hyatt Regency hotel in Paris, had left a note to his wife.
Reuters quotes the Paris prosecutor’s office as saying Ambassador Mthethwa’s wife had reported him missing on Monday evening, after receiving a message in which “he apologised and expressed his intention to end his life”.
Mthethwa had booked a room on the 22nd floor of the hotel.
The prosecutor says that in Mthethwa’s hotel room, the window’s safety mechanism had been forced open with scissors, which were left at the scene.
Investigators reportedly found no signs of a struggle or traces of medication or narcotics.
