Two Israeli soldiers were injured on Thursday when an explosive device targeting their military vehicle was detonated near a checkpoint in the occupied West Bank town of Tulkarm.
Israeli Army Radio confirmed that an Israeli army vehicle “hit an explosive device at Crossing 104 near Tulkarm” injuring two soldiers.
In a statement, Al-Qassam Brigades said the attack was carried by its fighters in cooperation with fighters from the Al-Quds Tulkarm Brigade.
The Al-Quds Brigades said “a pre-prepared Shuja’ 1 explosive device” targeted “a Namer military vehicle, putting it out of service near the ‘Nitzani Oz’ checkpoint, achieving confirmed hits.”
“Our fighters also confirmed observing the landing of helicopter aircraft for evacuation,” the group stated.
Seige Imposed on Tulkarm
Following the attack, Israeli Army Radio, cited by Al Jazeera Arabic, reported that an order was given to impose a comprehensive siege on Tulkarm and that large forces began combing the city.
The radio emphasized that the explosion was “exceptional, as no similar incidents have been recorded against our forces in the West Bank for five months,” Al Jazeera reported.
The official Palestinian news agency WAFA confirmed that Israeli occupation forces imposed a tight siege on Tulkarm after closing the iron gates at its southern and eastern entrances.
The army closed the Jabara Bridge gate at the city’s southern entrance and sealed off the gates of the Ennab military checkpoint to the east, barring the movement of vehicles, the report stated.
