The eThekwini Municipality has closed several beaches following the discovery of high levels of E. coli in the water.

The bacteria was picked up during recent water testing. Coming into contact with the contaminated water could lead to outbreaks of waterborne diseases.

The affected beaches are Westbrook, uMhlanga Main, uMdloti, Casuarina, eThekwini, Laguna Seasonal, Ansteys, Brighton, Isiphingo, Reunion, Warner, Amanzimtoti Main, and Pipeline.

All water activities are prohibited at closed beaches, but beachgoers can still enjoy activities that do not require them to come into contact with seawater.
