A UN report issued on Friday confirmed that 77 people were killed as a result of heavy rains and floods in Yemen, in less than two weeks. Children, as a result of rain and floods, hit 85 districts in 16 governorates.
“These victims were killed during the period from July 28 to August 10,” the report said, adding that “35 thousand families were affected by heavy rains and floods, the majority of which were displaced families during the same period.”
He pointed out that these families “have damaged their homes, livelihoods and water sources as a result of the floods,” and last month, the United Nations reported that 86,000 people were affected by heavy rains and torrential rains that hit separate areas in Yemen.
During the past two months, most areas in Yemen have witnessed heavy rains that caused torrential torrents, some of which flooded the camps for the displaced in the east of the country, while others damaged the infrastructure and the homes of citizens.
