Tropical Cyclone Eloise made landfall near Beira City in Sofala Province, Mozambique in the early hours of Saturday, January 23rd. Preliminary reports indicate that nearly 7,000 people have been displaced and more than 5,000 houses have been destroyed, damaged, or flooded. At least 163,283 people have been affected, according to preliminary information from the National Institute for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction (INGD). These vulnerable communities suffered severely from Cyclone Idai in 2019 and houses, agricultural fields and general food security has still not been restored. The new cyclone brings an added burden to an already struggling community. Al-Imdaad Foundation teams are on the ground delivering emergency relief in the form of food aid hampers, to families who have lost homes and belongings.
