International Quraan Recital Award 2017

The South African Quraan Union in conjunction with SANZAF, Awqaf SA and Lentegeur Islamic society will be hosting an international Quraan Recital Award competition.

The event entails a male and female qur’aan recitation contest for all nationalities. Contestants will be judged on their ability to recite the Qur’aan beautifully in Mujawwad/ Tajweed (very slow pace) form.

Participants who do not recite according the required pace will automatically be disqualified. As this is not a Hifdh (memorization) competition, contestants may recite from an open Mus’haf (Qur’aan) and do not need to be fully Haafidh in order to participate. To enter the competition visit

The competition kicks off on Sunday 17th September with the ladies prelim round and culminates on Sunday 24th September with a recital by special guest Sheikh Dr Ahmad Ahmad Na’eena from Egypt.
