A hired bus transporting four U16 Michaelhouse soccer teams was involved in an accident on the N3 near the Hilton off-ramp this afternoon

It is believed the bus, hired from Pietermaritzburg based company Maharaj’s coaches, had a tyre blow-out going down Townhill and flipped onto its side.

Michaelhouse marketing director Murray Witherspoon said two pupils were seriously injured while the other boys were “shaken up” and had minor injuries.

“The paramedics are on the scene and are attending to the injured pupils to the best of their ability,”said Witherspoon.

Approximately 48 children were assessed by various emergency services present at the scene. Paramedics immediately treated the patients and provided the seriously and critically injured with advanced life support interventions.

Once treated, the patients will be transported to various hospitals in the area for further treatment.

Traffic is heavily affected in the area due to this incident.

Local authorities are currently on the scene to investigate the cause of this incident.
Traffic is backed up in the area and motorists are urged to use alternate routes.
