Chief of Hamas Political Bureau Ismail Haniyeh said yesterday that the Palestinians will never allow Israel to divide Al-Aqsa Mosque and impose its sovereignty over it, the Anadolu Agency reported.
In a statement, Haniyeh described the latest Israeli measures in Jerusalem as “dangerous developments”.
“The Palestinian people and their resistance will never let these plans pass. Al-Aqsa Mosque is more valuable than our blood and souls.”
“Israel thought that Al-Aqsa Mosque would be alone as the Muslim world is involved in internal conflicts,” he added.
Haniyeh called on Arabs and Muslims to mobilise efforts to support Al-Aqsa Mosque and work hard to undermine the Israeli plans to dominate it.
On Friday, three Palestinians and two Israeli policemen were killed in clashes which took place in the courtyard of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israel closed Al-Aqsa Mosque from Friday to Sunday and on Sunday it placed electronic detectors for Muslim worshipers to go through when they enter into the Mosque.
Palestinians have refused to pass through the detectors and instead, perform prayers in front of the gates leading to the mosque.
