Falls Church, Va. – A note saying “kill all Muslims” with a drawing of a pig defecating on a mosque was delivered to the Dal Al-Hijrah Islamic Center in Falls Church on Tuesday.
It’s one of a rash of recent hate-fueled incidents targeting mosques across the country.
Dar Al-Hijrah Official Colin Christopher says investigators believe this letter came from the United Kingdom.
“What this tells us is that the challenges we are facing and the atmosphere is really engulfing western societies,” Christopher said.
Dar Al-Hijrah, a place of enduring faith and refuge for those who enter, received a different but equally disturbing phone message on Friday, February 17.
“Yeah you (expletive) better leave the country because if you come to the U.S. and start training (expletive) Muslim terrorists we’re gonna (expletive) bomb ya.”
That was one of two offensive phone calls that came in that day. The other was filled with so many expletives ABC7 News was unable to air it. While county and federal authorities investigate, Islamic Center officials have stepped up security.
“This atmosphere of hate and intolerance created by a few people can really alarm an entire nation and that’s what we are experiencing right now,” Christopher said.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will soon release a report tracking anti-Muslim acts nationwide. According to the author, this report will show about a 50 percent increase from 2015 to 2016 in anti-Muslim incidents.
