It’s become all too common in today’s generation to see young people suffer from eating disorders, peer pressure, depression, suicidal thoughts, and a sense of withdrawal from life itself. Much of it stems from being surrounded by the wrong company, and carrying the burden of painful past experiences that have deeply affected their mindset, families, and overall lives.
These were once bright, hopeful teens full of potential, with dreams and vision for their future. But now, many of them are lost in a world of darkness, weighed down by depression, anxiety, and thoughts of giving up.
Society’s opinions and peer expectations have somehow taken precedence over everything else. Many of their decisions are based on what others expect of them not on what’s right for their faith, their modesty, or their future.
Surrounded by negativity from every direction, they fall into harmful habits and activities. Things they never imagined themselves doing. And this is often the result of being too trusting, too open to the wrong crowd.
It gets even worse when families and communities turn a blind eye to someone’s struggles. Instead of showing compassion, they assume the worst, spread rumors, and make the situation even more unbearable for someone who’s already carrying so much pain.
If only we were wiser in the choices we made, wiser about the people we let into our lives, and strong enough to not let this temporary world distract us from our imaan – we could save ourselves so much heartbreak.
Criticism will always exist. It’s a never ending storm. As long as you shine, contribute, and try to make a difference people will criticize. That’s just the way the world works.
But stay firm. Stay patient when you’re insulted or misunderstood. Don’t let their words shake you. Sometimes, the more society disapproves of you, the more valuable you actually are.
Please remember this sinful servant in your esteem duas, InshaAllah.
