In the competitive rat race that all of us are stuck in, it is natural to feel extremely tired and stressed out, sometimes to the point of becoming anxious. While health issues are still a debatable topic at workplaces, there seems to be a new solution to bringing this problem to an end.
The Daily Mail reported that scientists from the Sleep Research Centre at the University of Surrey developed a blood test that can help employers determine if their employees are fit for work.
Not just bosses, but the police will also benefit from this test as they will be able to identify drivers who are too tired to drive.
The team used 36 healthy adults to demonstrate how sleep deprivation can be detected in blood. The study’s findings were originally published in the Sleep Journal. For the test, a participant has to stay up for almost 40 hours and then researchers measured the changes in thousands of genes after taking blood samples.
It was then that a computer program could spot if it came from a person that was sleep deprived or well-rested with 92 per cent accuracy by reading 68 different genes.
The new phase of this test would be when scientists can design a test that can reveal how much sleep an individual has had and how much difference it can make in an individual’s life.
