At least 134 people, mostly children, died in violence over this past weekend in Idlib, Hama, Aleppo in Syria, the UN reported Monday.
UN Secretary General spokesman Farhan Haq said the country reported a “heavy civilian toll” from the conflicts.
He said at least 59 people lost their lives in an explosion Sunday in an ammunition depot of a residential building in Idlib.
The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) reported 28 children were also killed in Idlib and Western Aleppo. Three UNICEF-funded health centers are providing assistance to children and women who were targeted in the attacks, according to Haq.
He called on all sides not to target schools and hospitals and to allow safe, sustainable, and unhindered humanitarian access to the region in accordance with international law.
