A diver has died while trying to rescue 12 boys and their football coach trapped in a flooded cave in northern Thailand, officials said.
Saman Kunan, 38, a former Thai navy Seal, died due to lack of air while returning from inside the flooded cave, media reports citing local officials said.
Kunan had taken part in the rescue mission voluntarily.
On June 23, the group of 12 boys aged 11-16 and their 25-year-old coach disappeared after they visited the Tham Luang Nang Non cave in the Chiang Rai province following a football training session.
Search-and-rescue teams found the missing group nine days after they were trapped in the cave due to heavy rainfall and rising waters.
