Last Night (30 November) Members of the Muslim community of South Africa went out to scan the skies in search of the moon signifying the beginning of the Month of Rabi ul Awal. The third month of the Islamic calendar.
However, much confusion arose when various Islamic bodies forwarded conflicting decisions regarding the sighting of the moon, sending social media in a frenzy and adding to the confusion of many.
It was not long before Jamiatul Fordsburg sent out whats app bc’s confirming the sighting of the Hilaal for Rabi Ul Awal as well as a calendar for the month.
However, this morning again, Islamic bodies reiterated that a conclusion had not yet been determined regarding the hilaal.
Alhumdulillah, this morning on Cii Radio, Mufti AK Hoosen laid all the confusion to rest as he clearly outlined and confirmed that the beginning Rabi Ul Awal is the 01 December 2016.
“the moon yesterday after Magrib was more than 28 hours, so anyway it was 100% visible if the horizon was clear” explained Mufti AK Hoosen.
